Dinner at The Happiest Hour & Slowly Shirley

121 W 10th St, New York, NY 10011

We celebrated one year of marriage with a favorite meal, burgers, in the cutest tiki-inspired bar and restaurant in the West Village. We so enjoyed talking around in the village, and the walk to the restaurant was no exception. We specifically didn’t make a reservation because were wanted to be able to leisurely make our way there. I don’t recommend that, because the restaurant is super popular and pretty small, but it all worked out in the end. After one drink at the darling upstairs bar we made our way to the basement, and decided to eat in the speakeasy style bar down there, Slowly Shirley. The ambiance was perfect, dark and romantic, and I was very into the Art Deco inspired fixtures and decor.

Saint Patricks Cathedral

Saint Patricks Cathedral

This was cool.

We stumbled into a beautiful church on Lexington Ave. a few blocks from our second hotel in the city, The Freehand. It looked familiar but we didn’t make the connection immediately . When we commented on it, the gracious priest that had greeted us said that the church had been used to film Season Three of Marvel’s Daredevil on Netflix. Lo and behold, Derek and I had found Clinton Church, home of Father Lantom, and Matt Murdock’s nun mother. We were flipping out, obviously being massive fans. Total highlight.
