Young Living Seedlings Review
Being a parent is difficult enough without having to constantly question whether the products you use are safe. And it’s true, it’s definitely the non-toxic household products that have kept me coming back to Young Living. I wasn’t aware of the benefits and applications of essential oils or Young Living when my daughter was first born, and that’s why I was so excited to have a chance to use the Young Living Seedlings line right from the beginning of my son’s life.
I would like to preface my review though. Baby products are expensive- even if you’re buying a bargain brand. Add to that the fact that many of those expensive products are single use and going right into the trash can (i.e. wipes). So I completely understand why people wouldn’t want to (or couldn’t ) shell out extra for those products. And sometimes it's the convenience factor. Leading up to the birth of my daughter I was all set to go the cloth diaper route. I bought the starter kit and everything. Cut to night one at home when we ran out of diapers from the hospital and immediately broke open the box of newborn diapers we bought “just in case”. Everyone has their reasons for picking what they use and I get that. Having had success and loving Young Living like I do, I was excited to try the whole line, which I recommend if you’re interested. But not every product stuck an here’s why…
…but first all the details…
Young Living's Seedlings line is all naturally derived and formulated specifically for infants with carefully chosen clean ingredients. They are all infused with the soothing Seedlings Calm blend of essential oils - Lavender, Coriander, Bergamot, Ylang Ylang, and Geranium for a sweet, mild aroma that can help baby (and Mom and Dad) settle.
They’re formulated without silicones, formaldehyde carriers, PEGs, mineral oil, most common allergens, alcohol, parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, animal-derived ingredients, synthetic preservatives, synthetic fragrances, or artificial dyes/colorants.
Now for the results!
Seedlings Products and My Thoughts
* Seedlings Baby Lotion - This lotion is amazing because it absorbs into the skin so quickly. Perfect for young children, antsy toddlers, or when you’re applying it between changes and don’t want to get it all over their new onesie. And I’ll have to mention this for every item, but the scent of this line is incredibly soothing. Its perfect for bedtime, with the Lavender and Geranium, and just feels fresh whenever you use it.
* Seedlings Baby Wash & Shampoo- Similar to the lotion, the bath wash is so soothing for bath time. The aroma definitely lives up the the name of the oil blend- you will feel calm when you use it. I like to use a soap that is natural, so I’ll stick with it, but it is pretty basic in features. It foams nicely when you add it to the bath as its filling, and it rinses easily. Is is tearless? Im not sure exactly, as Nathaniel is too young to be doing his own lathering, but Clarice helps to wash herself and she has never complained when its gotten on her face. Success for us!
* Seedlings Baby Oil- This baby oil is luxurious, for sure. It’s not something I used a ton on the kids because I preferred to use the Seedlings fast-absorbing lotion for any massage I did. But I did enjoy it when I tried it, and a little went a long way. In fact, I still have most of the bottle and I think I’m going to use it as a carrier oil for any future sleep roll-ons that I make for Clarice. If I add a few drops of Roman Chamomile I basically have our favorite nighttime blend.
* Seedlings Baby Wipes- LOVE LOVE LOVE these for the large size, which you can use strategically to cut down the number of wipes needed with each change. They are also super soft and smell amazing. And, I have found that using these have cut down on the total number of rashes the develop in total. And I swear that when I had to revert to Huggies wipes for a few days while waiting for my order, a rash immediately started up, which has now led me to believe that wipes can cause a rash. But I digress and write long run-on sentences… these wipes are my favorite I’ve ever tried, hands down!
* Seedlings Diaper Rash Cream- my biggest complaint here is the size of the tube! If you use rash cream at each diaper change, 2oz is just not practical. It works fine for a diaper bag or on-the-go, but I quickly reverted to my tub of Boudreaux’s Butt Paste when I ran out after a couple days.
* Seedlings Tender Tush Ointment- This all-purpose, cloth-diaper-safe ointment is the star of the line, in my opinion. I sometimes slyer it under the Boudreaux’s Butt Paste that I apply every diaper change. Not only does it protects and soothes baby's most delicate skin but it truly lives up to it’s multi-purpose claim. It literally works great on any areas in need of major moisture, such as elbows, chins, cheeks, knees. It just all around nourishment for any dry skin.
* Seedlings Linen Spray- Love the scent, but I like to make other linen sprays since it’s such an easy DIY (essential oil of choice + witch hazel+water)
* Seedlings Calm Essential Oil Blend- Again, great aroma, perfect for the product line, I just didn’t find myself wanting to diffuse the same scent I was getting so much of from the other products
So there it is!
I will mostly likely continue to order the wipes, Tender Tush, and the lotion for the kids. Nathaniel will be in diapers for a while still, and Clarice has very sensitive skin so the lotion is great for her too. And with kids, wipes are practically always necessary. I’m glad to have found these products and to take advantage of clean ingredients. Once again, Young Living delivers!
