Thieves Home Cleaning: All-Natural for Everything

Thieves Home Cleaning: All-Natural for Everything

If I could only buy one Young Living product it would easily be the Thieves Household Cleaner. The Thieves Essential oil blend has this rich spicy aroma that’s great for erasing smells but also smells clean.

One bottle of the concentrate makes 60 (16 oz) bottles of multi-purpose spray. If you like a stronger cleaner, you can double up on the recipe and still make 30 bottles. And there are so many applications for this cleaner. I use it to clean our entire house, and one $23.50 bottle lasts me about 3 months.

I have found this cleaner to be magical. It is great for all your heavy traffic areas; kitchen counters, walls, highchairs, and appliances. Plus, with just a few extra ingredients, you can make solutions to clean virtually every surface, including hard-wood floors, glass, tile, and carpet. Does you kids’ play kitchen need a wipe-down? It is safe to use in toys, too! I also use it in my stain spray, laundry detergent, and in my dishwasher as a rinse-aid from time to time too.

I throw it on everything and haven’t ever regretted it. It is a star!

You can also watch this video where the Thieves Cleaner passes the raw chicken test. Or just google it because there are a couple good ones!

My other must haves from the Thieves Home Collection are the

  • Thieves Dish Soap $14.50

  • Thieves Laundry Detergent $30.75

  • Thieves Automatic Dishwasher Powder $26.50

With just 4 products, you are removing so many toxic ingredients in your home. At the bottom of this post you will find my favorite recipes using Thieves Cleaner.

In the interest of honesty, though, let’s talk cost.

I know that cleaning products are expensive so many people buy whatever is on sale (I used to do this), and there are also those that may prefer a brand they’re familiar with (my husband is like this). So I think this conversation is merited.

Up front, buying the Thieves cleaners will cost more. But they are concentrates that can be diluted and may last just as long.

The Thieves Cleaner is a no-brainer. You will usually only use a capful at a time. Definitely worth the $23. I would buy it just to have around the house.

With the Laundry Soap and the Dish Soap, I dilute them by half, so each bottle becomes 2 bottles. 2 of each usually get our family of 3 through 1 month. The price is pretty close on both counts here.

I usually use a tablespoon per cycle of the Thieves Dishwashing Powder, so one bag is about 32 cycles. That said, at $26.50, it gets pricey if you need more than one bag a month. If I have time, as I make a DIY dishwasher tablet recipe. I’m not sure if there’s universal advice here because all dishwashers are so different. I had to try a few different recipes to find the DIY Tablets I make, and it’s easy but sometimes not worth the time it takes.

The biggest draw for me continues to be the non-toxic element. Like with replacing candles, it makes sense to ditch the toxins from our home if possible. I feel like I do a good job of stretching out the products we buy (by diluting them), and committing to that can really help the products go further. Also, most of these DIY recipes call for the same couple oils, mostly Thieves and Lemon,l, so you could easily save by sticking to those two oils.

Overall, I just love that the solutions we clean the house with are safe.

After all, the plates that touch our food, and the fabric that touches our skin (the biggest organ on your body), matter. They deserve to be clean clean.

Try these easy DIY Recipes that I use at home

Thieves Household Cleaner

1 capful Thieves Household Cleaner to 16 oz (2 cups) water.

Use 2 capfuls per 16 oz for a stronger cleaner. I use this version for everything outdoor on my patio!

You can also use the Thieves cleaner to wash your fruit. I use a half capful for. large bowl of veggies. Soak for 5 minutes and rinse and dry well.

Daily Soft Scrub

Combine equal parts

  • Bon Ami

  • Thieves Cleaner

  • 20 drops Citrus Fresh essential oil blend.

    • I will also use Tea Tree essential oil sometimes, which is great for fighting mold!

I use this ON. A. LOT. My stainless sinks, bathroom sinks, toilets, bathtub, and shower floor. I will also list my deep-clean scrub that’s just a little stronger for tough grimy jobs.

Deep-clean Soft Scrub

  • 1/3 cup natural liquid dish soap (I use the Thieves Dish Soap)

  • 1/2 cup Bon Ami

  • 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide

  • 3/4 cup water

  • 30 drops Eucalyptus essential oil

Mix together and scrub with brush on surface. Let stand for 20 minutes. Rinse. I have seen some people substitute Baking Soda for the Bon Ami! I love Bon Ami, but its just a preference.

Glass Window Spray

  • 3 cups distilled water

  • 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol

  • 1/4 cup white vinegar

  • 20 drops Peppermint essential oil

Remember to shake your spray bottle to combine before each use. Spray on mirrors, windows, or stainless steel

Laundry Soap Dilution

  • 16 oz (1/2 of the 32 oz bottle) Thieves Laundry Soap

  • 3 capfuls Thieves Cleaner

  • Distilled water

  • 20 drops essentail oils

    • Use lemon for stain-fighting, Lavender for a dreamy scent, Eucalyptus for a fresh boost, or Purification for a little of it all!

Split the bottle of Thieves Laundry Soap in half. Add three capfuls of Thieves Cleaner and essential oils of choice. Top with distilled water. Shake to combine before each use.

Dish Soap Dilution

  • 6 oz (1/2 of the 12 oz bottle) Thieves Laundry Soap

  • 2 teaspoons baking soda

  • Distilled water

  • 5 drops Lemon essential oil

Split the bottle of Thieves Dish Soap in half. Add baking soda and lemon essential oil. Top with distilled water. Shake vigorously to combine.

Stain Pre-Treat Stick

  • 1/2 oz Thieves Laundry Soap

  • 1/2 oz Thieves Cleaner

  • 5 drops Thieves essential oil

  • 10 drops Lemon essential oil

Fill a 1oz roller bottle with equal parts Thieves Cleaner and Thieves Laundry Soap (or dish soap). Add essential oils and shake vigorously to combine. Pre-treat stains for 5-15 min and rinse before washing normally.

DIY Room or Linen Spray

  • 1 tablespoon Witch Hazel

  • 30- 40 drops Young Living essential oils

Use any combination of oils you love- below are some of my favorites.

    • Thieves and Tangerine

    • Bergamot and Purification

    • Cedarwood, Lavender, Stress Away (I love to use this on my linens at night )

    • Tea Tree, Lemon, Lime

    • Or use any blend on its own!

  • Fill rest of the bottle with water (distilled water is best, but in a pinch I have used purified or tap water too)

This recipe is for a 4oz bottle- you can adjust depending on how large a room spray bottle you use. I prefer to use 40 drops for my 8oz bottles- usually equal parts of each oil. Be sure to shake vigorously each time you spray.

Here is a link to my favorite room spray bottle too!

I’ve also included a picture here of all the products I use for these (and many other) DIY’s. I honestly just threw them all up on the desk and took this picture, but if you have any specific questions, ask them in the comments and I’ll get you the details you need!

These are my must-make home cleaning DIY’s. Of course, one of the coolest things about Young Living is the community. Search and find other recipes to try or make up your own!
