Fool-Proof Sugar Cookies

Fool-Proof Sugar Cookies

It’s National Sugar Cookies Day! So I’m sharing my favorite recipe for this fun homemade staple.

After tinkering with multiple recipes from. Allrecipes.com and my trusted Betty Crocker Cookbook, I’ve finally come up with the perfect measurements. Not only for taste and bakability (definitely feeling like that’ not a word), but also for cookies yielded. Based on 1/4 inch thick cookies about 2 inches across, this recipe makes 24 cookies perfectly. Of course, if you’re looking to use really different shaped or sized cutters this could vary, but using most of my cutters I get 24. See my star cutter below for 4th of July.

Vanilla Sugar Cookies Recipe

Cream butter and sugar until smooth.

  • 3/4 cup butter, softened

  • 1 cup white sugar

Beat in eggs and vanilla extract.

  • 2 eggs

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt.

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Cover and chill overnight or for 2 hours.

On a well-floured surface, roll out dough 1/4 inch thick. Cut into shapes. Place cookies 1 inch apart on non-stick cookie sheet.

Bake 5 to 7 minutes at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
